Miami adds another AAF talent to try to bolster secondary

The Miami Dolphins are capitalizing on the extra game tape at their disposal for a handful of NFL hopefuls. The team has added talent from the now defunct Alliance of American Football (AAF) league at a pace that’s equal to any other team in the NFL.

Their latest addition came just a few days ago with the signing of former Birmingham Iron and Pittsburgh Steeler cornerback Jamar Summers. Summers, who spent last summer with the Steelers but did not make the final 53-man roster, logged three interceptions with the Iron this winter before the league folded operations just weeks from the finish line of their inaugural season.

It’s all water under the bridge now for Summers, who is one of the lucky ones to get another look in the NFL — thanks in part to his strong play with the Iron.

Summers is a University of Connecticut product who went undrafted during the 2018 NFL Draft despite logging 12 career interceptions and 21 passes defensed over his four years as a starter with the Huskies.

Summers will now look to latch onto the Dolphins’ roster — he’ll have a fair shot. The talent is there for Miami at the top of the depth chart, but depth is an issue Summers may be able to help solve.
