MIA to release new album, Matangi, in December

MIA's fourth studio album, Matangi, will be released in December, accompanied by a documentary, an art exhibition and an autobiographical book.

"If you want to know about LP = ask me questions and ill choose 10 to answer," MIA tweeted on Tuesday. The singer had begun stoking interest earlier in the week, posting the image of a partial tracklist including songs called Rain and Tentple. MIA also confirmed her latest single, Bad Girls, will be included.

"[Like] Paul Simon on acid," she said of the album's sound. "Could be 5 [songs, and] could be 15 … Depends on what sounds good in my bros CAR." Although MIA recently commissioned Bad Girls remixes featuring Azealia Banks and Missy Elliott, the new record will have "no collabs". And although the 37-year-old didn't name her producers, she did seem to indicate that her ex-boyfriend, Diplo, plays no part: Matangi's only producers are "[the] ones that dont act like fame whore coloniser".

Apart from last year's Vicki Leekx mixtape, MIA's most recent album was 2010's Maya. Peaking at No 21, it was a relative disappointment given the crossover success of the single Paper Planes. "No one in the industry collected blows in the last 3 years as much as me," she said on Tuesday. "[Matangi] is a fuck you to them and a thank you to you."
