Mia Farrow has said that meeting Woody Allen is “the great regret of my life”.
Farrow spoke as part of HBO’s forthcoming documentary series Allen v Farrow.
Directed by the Oscar-nominated Kirby Dick (Twist of Faith, The Invisible War) and his long-term collaborator Amy Ziering, the four-part documentary will focus on the sexual-abuse allegations made against Allen by his adopted daughter, Dylan. It will also look at Allen and Farrow’s custody trial, as well as his relationship with Farrow’s adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn.
Speaking in the recently released trailer for the docuseries, Farrow said: “If I could take it all back, I would. I wish I’d never met [Allen].
“That’s my great regret of my life, to bring somebody like that who should never have been in the family.”
The Rosemary’s Baby star also revealed that she is “scared of him”.
“A person who has no allegiance to truth will do anything. A person who will do anything is somebody to be scared of,” said the actor.
The series will feature interviews with case investigators, as well as Mia Farrow, Dylan Farrow, and Allen and Farrow’s son, the journalist Ronan Farrow.
Allen v Farrow will also feature some never-before-seen details around the nearly 30-year-old case, such as a videotape account from seven-year-old Dylan in the immediate wake of her sexual abuse claims.
“It had been so extensively covered and a lot of our work goes into new cases,” co-filmmaker Kirby Dick told The New York Times. “But as we got into it, we found there was a great deal more. We pivoted because we realised the full story had never gotten out.”
Allen and Farrow were together for 12 years, from 1980 until their separation in 1992. They famously never married and kept separate residences in New York City. They made 13 films together and had three children, Satchel, who changed his name to Ronan, and Dylan and Moses, both adopted.
In 1992, Allen was found to have been having an intimate relationship with Farrow's adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn. In the same eight-month period, Dylan Farrow, who was seven at the time, accused Allen of sexually assaulting her. Allen has denied the allegations many times and has not been charged with a crime.
Allen v Farrow premieres on HBO on 21 February.
