MI5 spy jobs you can apply for and how much they pay

You might not be the next James Bond, but you could play a very big part in keeping our country safe.

A number of jobs are on offer with the counter-intelligence service MI5.

The role will see you protect people from danger whether it be from terrorism or damaging espionage by hostile states.

MI5 also to help fight serious crime alongside the National Crime Agency and others.

Each of the jobs is based in Westminster , Central London, but some offer the opportunity to let you work elsewhere in the country.

Mandarin Chinese Language Opportunities

Role type: Permanent

Starting salary: £32,000+ p/a

Hours of work: Full-time

About the role:

Not only do MI5 want Mandarin speakers, but they are also wanted at MI6 and GCHQ, Britain's other spy agencies.

But beware, the roles go "well beyond translation and transcription". You'll have to carry out "core language analysis".

You could have picked up Mandarin growing up in a multi-lingual family or have studied the language to a high level.

And you won't just be stuck in the role, there are apparently lots of opportunities for promotion.

Russian Language Opportunities

Role type: Permanent

Starting salary: £32,000+ p/a

Hours of work: Full-time

About the role:

This role could lead to working not only for MI5 but also at MI6 and GCHQ, Britain's other spy agencies.

You will need to speak Ruassian, but at a pretty high level as what you translate and decipher will "have direct impact on UK government policy and decision-making".

"You’ll play an active role in directing projects and driving forward investigations," the description adds.

Not only must your Russian be great, but you should be able to "translate its nuances into clear, well-drafted English."

Chief Financial Officer

Role type: Permanent

Salary: £81,000+ p/a

About the role:

Although three spy agencies in the UK work on different area, many of their corporate functions and requirements are very similar.

That is why the back offices for MI5, MI6 and GCHQ are being streamlined on order to provide "finance, commercial, HR and internal audit services".

And they need a CFO to help bring experience to that team.

Play an important role at making sure the lights stay on, not just at MI5, but also at MI6 and GCHQ.

About the role:

Intelligence agencies are looking for people with rare language skills to work flexibly, aiding them in their work.

They are looking for contractor linguists to respond quickly and effectively to changing operational demands.

Savvy software developers are needed for the complex needs of the MI5 for their apps.
