Mhaisal murders: Cops seek setting up of fast-track court

KOLHAPUR: The Sangli police have decided to seek a special prosecutor's appointment and initiation of the proceedings in a fast-track court for speedy justice in the case of the murder of nine members of a family in the Mhaisal town of Miraj tehsil in Sangli district.

Meanwhile, the interrogation of accused Abbas Muhamad Ali Bagwan, a 48-year-old from Solapur has made clear the sequence of events that led to the horrific crime. On June 20, the bodies of Popat Vhanmore and his brother Manik, along with their family members, were found in two separate houses.

Dikshitkumar Gedam, the Sangli SP, said, "We have found that both the accused - Bagwan and his accomplice Dhiraj Chandrakant Suravase - came to Vhanmores' houses on the night of June 19. They asked the family members to count 1,100 grains of wheat seven times. Then, at Popat house, all the residents were asked to go upstairs. They were called up one by one and given a poisonous liquid in a bottle. The same activity was repeated at Manik's house. Residents in both the houses were asked to drink the liquid and rest with their eyes shut."
