MHA recognises Uttarakhand police drive to rehabilitate child beggars

DEHRADUN: Operation Mukti, a drive run by the Uttarakhand police department to rehabilitate child beggars across the hill state, has found its mention in "Best Practices on Smart Policing", a book recently launched by the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) under the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA).

As part of Operation Mukti, the state police, with help from some NGOs, rescues child beggars from the streets and enrolls them into schools or day-care facilities. So far, 1,430 children have been enrolled in schools or day facilities. Besides Operation Mukti, the department's initiative of launching a bike-borne Cheetah Police unit and setting up a women’s help desk in all police stations, have also been mentioned in the book.
