MG has launched a new family SUV – the HS, on sale now from £17,995, with first customer deliveries in November.
At 4574mm from front to rear, the new HS is a little longer than its GS predecessor and the British marque's car is longer than a Volkswagen Tiguan or Land Rover Evoque.
All three versions of the HS are powered by a 162PS turbocharged petrol engine and are exclusively front-wheel drive with either six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed auto box.
The entry level Explore model starts from £17,995. Standard features include 17in alloy wheels, keyless entry with push button start, a 10.1in colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and electric folding and heated door mirrors.
The mid-level Explore version is available from £20,495 and adds rear parking camera, 18in alloys, rain sensing wipers and sat nav.
The top spec Exclusive is available from £22,995 with a choice of two leather interiors (black or red and black), front and rear LED sequential indicators, electrically adjustable heated sports front seats, dual zone climate control, ambient lighting and panoramic opening Skyroof.
DCT versions also include driving modes including Super Sport and a customisable electronic opening tailgate.
Claimed performance for the newcomer is an identical 118mph top speed and 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds with either transmission and average fuel economy of 37.2mpg for cars with a manual gearbox or 36.2mpg with an auto, and emissions of 148g/km and 157g/km respectively.
Standard kit across the range includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, intelligent speed limit assist, intelligent headlight control, traffic jam assist, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot detection and door opening warning.
The MG HS becomes the fourth car in MG’s range alongside the MG3 hatchback, MG ZS compact SUV and the all-electric MG ZS EV. A seven year/80,000-mile warranty is now standard across the MG range.
