Meyers Addresses Bizarre Lateral in Raiders Press Conference

New Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers ingratiated himself to his new team’s fan base with his candidness on Thursday when he spoke about a rather difficult subject. Meyers is all too familiar with Allegiant Stadium, his new team’s home, because this past season it was the site of the biggest blunder of his career.

On Dec. 18, the Patriots and Raiders were all tied up at 24 with two seconds to go in the game. New England had the ball and could guarantee overtime. However, they tried to make some magic happen on the final play with some laterals and Meyers ended up throwing an ill-advised interception with no time remaining and Chandler Jones returned it for a touchdown.

The play cost the Patriots a win and left Meyers as the butt of a national joke. But on Thursday, he tackled the mistake head on.

“That was a humbling experience as a man, as a football player, that was just tough,” Meyers told reporters. “I knew what it meant to the team I was on at the time, and so it really hurt me because, like I said, family is really big for me.”

Meyers said that he was “heartbroken” in the following days but his teammates and loved ones rallied around him for support. He finished last year with 804 receiving yards and six touchdown catches in his 14 games played for New England. He reportedly signed a three-year deal with Las Vegas that could be up to $33 million with $21 million guaranteed.
