A woman who was kidnapped and raped multiple times a day has spoken out about her story.
Sandra was taken from her hometown in Central Mexico aged 19 and forced into the sex trade in New York City.
Now aged 30, she says she was raped by at least 30 men a day, was beaten and often not given food or water.
Speaking to the New York Post, she explained how she was befriended by a man called Alfredo in her home town, who pretended to take her to meet his parents but instead kidnapped her and took her to another city.
Sandra says Alfredo threatened to kill her family if she didn’t comply and beat her if she ever disagreed with him.
“I had never been a prostitute. I did nothing wrong, but I was raped every day for the four years that I was a prisoner,” she said.
After three years of being forced into prostitution in Mexico, she was smuggled into America.
One year after she arrived in New York she managed to call her sister and make a getaway.
She went to the Mexican Consulate who sent her to Sanctuary for Families, a non-profit organisation that aids victims of domestic violence and trafficking.
Sanctuary for Families helped Sandra get a visa to stay in the US and she is now helping authorities track down Alfredo – who apparently used all the money to build a house and a buy a car for his brother.
“I don’t really know what happened to Alfredo. I think he moved back to Mexico. I am helping American authorities track him down. I hope he gets arrested.
“I want justice for what Alfredo did to me, and what others continue to do to poor Mexican girls. I’m not afraid of anyone anymore,” Sandra said.
She is currently living in America and has a five-year-old son. She dreams of becoming a chef and currently works in a restaurant.
