Mexican locals horrified after finding 20 bags of human remains in hidden 'mass grave'

Locals have been left horrified after twenty bags of human remains were found in a hidden grave in Mexico.

Cops have launched an investigation into the remains following the discovery by search teams in the city of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga.

Members of the Search Mothers Collectives of Jalisco confirmed the bags were full of blood after the search team were called to a home in the Jalisco state.

Upon entering the grave, search teams found more than 20 bags of human remains - including six gruesome skulls, according to group leader Cecilia Flores.

Cecilia told Borderland Beat: "There are more than 20 bags, but many were buried.

“We don't know how many bodies are involved, but we were able to see six skulls among the bags.”

It is believed members of the public tipped the group off regarding the whereabouts of the bodies (@CeciPatriciaF/Twitter)

She wrote on her Twitter page the search teams found the human remains - but with no help from the government.

Cecilia said: "In Jalisco today we find human remains. We had no support from any government to mobilise and we had to do it with our own resources. Thanks to the families who donated."

It is not yet known how the search group teams knew where to search for the items.

However, local reports suggest the groups could have been tipped off on social media as thousands of people remain missing in Mexico.

The horrifying finds are becoming more common in recent years after Mexico recorded over 100,000 people missing since official records began.

Many believe locals are turning to the search groups such as Search Mothers Collectives in order to help find their loved ones.

The country has to deal with drug and cartel violence which human rights charities believe is causing the rise in missing people.

One of the biggest contributors to the drug violence is the group Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) which has history for dumping bodies of their victims.

The group were founded in 2009 and are believed to be one of the most dangerous cartel groups in Mexico- with an extensive drug trafficking record.

In addition, the group's reach is so dangerous the US Drug Enforcement Administration has pledged a whopping £9m reward for any new information that helps capture the Jalisco New Generation Cartel's leader.

It is thought to be the most substantial reward offered in recent history.
