Mexican governor and senator husband reported dead in helicopter crash

An air crash appears to have claimed the lives of the governor of Puebla state in Mexico, Martha Erika Alonso, and her husband and the former governor, Rafael Moreno Valle, a senator.

"I'm receiving information about an accident in Puebla, a helicopter crash," Mexican President Andre Manuel Lopez Obrador tweeted. He added that confirmation on the passengers involved was still pending but that the governor of Puebla state, Martha Erika Alonso, and her husband, Senator and former Gov. Rafael Moreno Valle, were aboard.

The helicopter crashed near the state capital of Puebla on Monday afternoon, according to the newspaper Reforma and several other Mexican media outlets.

"I have ordered the entire government to act immediately," Lopez Obrador said in his initial tweet.

He also expressed his sorrow and vowed to investigate fully.

"My deepest condolences to the families of Senator Rafael Moreno Valle and his wife, Governor of Puebla Martha Erika Alonso," Lopez Obrador tweeted. "I promise to conduct a full investigation and find out what happened."
