Law enforcement officers in the Mexican state of Jalisco came under fire while serving an arrest warrant for a suspect wanted for attempted murder.
Concretely, agents from the Jalisco Attorney General's Office were attacked by armed civilians in the Postes Cuates neighborhood, west of Guadalajara.
According to authorities, officers had identified and approached Franco Iván "N" when several armed men — believed to be his associates — tried to prevent the arrest.
"Multiple armed men began to gather and then opened fire on the agents, who repelled the attack and requested backup from the Guadalajara Municipal Police," the attorney general's office said in a statement.
Once the attackers were subdued, authorities arrested Franco Iván "N," along with two others accused of participating in the assault: César Oswaldo "N" and Evelyn Yaneira "N." Both face charges of aggravated attempted homicide and resisting arrest.
No officers were injured in the confrontation, as reported by Infobae.
The incident is part of a broader wave of violence targeting law enforcement in Mexico, where more than 100 officers have been killed so far this year.
According to a database maintained by the nonprofit Causa en Común, at least 166 police officers were killed nationwide as of May 15 — a 36% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

The states with the highest number of officer deaths so far in 2025 are Sinaloa (23), Guanajuato (22), Michoacán (12), and Guerrero, Oaxaca and Veracruz (11 each).
The organization also reports that since President Claudia Sheinbaum took office on Oct. 1, 2024, at least 260 police officers have been killed across the country.
In Jalisco, at least nine officers have been killed between January and May — already 75% of the total officer deaths recorded in the state during all of last year.
The most recent case involved Ramón Moncada Grande, the police chief of Teocaltiche, a region of Jalisco long contested by the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) and the Sinaloa Cartel.
Moncada was shot and killed while inside his vehicle by an unidentified gunman who fled the scene after firing three times, according to officials.
That same month, municipal police officer Luis Ernesto Chávez Regino was shot and killed at his home on April 9.
