Authorities in Durango confirmed the arrest of a suspected Sinaloa Cartel operative accused of handling the finances for one of the state's most deeply rooted criminal groups.
Concretely, in a multi-agency operation carried out after intelligence work, officials arrested Edgar Rodríguez "N," also known as "El Limones," who was under investigation for extorting local business owners and ranchers and allegedly belonged to the criminal group known as Los Cabrera.
On Dec. 10, Mexico's Security Minister Omar García Harfuch announced the capture on social media, saying Edgar "N"'s arrest dealt a direct blow to Durango's extortion networks and adding that the suspect also managed and handled finances for Los Cabrera.
During the arrest, authorities seized high-caliber weapons, a grenade and tactical gear.

According to Mexican outlet Milenio, El Limones was investigated by Mexico's Financial Intelligence Unit for allegedly conducting transactions with illicit funds. Those investigations identified him as the financial operator for Los Cabrera, a criminal organization with strong roots in Durango and parts of Chihuahua and Sinaloa.
The Cabrera Sarabia family has long been aligned with Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada and has backed La Mayiza since turf wars erupted in Sinaloa between the Zambada family and Los Chapitos, the sons of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán.
Mexican media reports describe Los Cabrera as a Sinaloa Cartel faction that has been fighting the rival group La Línea for control in Chihuahua. They are also believed to be founding members of the armed wing known as Grupo Flechas, created at El Mayo's request to counter Los Chapitos and other rivals.
As reported by the outlet, Edgar Rodríguez served as Los Cabrera's plaza boss in the Laguna de Durango region and in Coahuila. He is considered part of the group's second tier of leadership and takes orders from José Luis Cabrera Sarabia, known as "El 03" or "El 300."
Investigators say El Limones received large deposits with no legitimate origin and transferred funds to companies tied to money laundering. Authorities also link him to the purchase and sale of real estate, luxury vehicles, jewelry, watches and gambling operations.
During the operation, Mexican authorities also arrested several other individuals identified as generators of violence and extortionists in Coahuila.
Who are Los Cabrera?
In its early years, the Cabrera Sarabia criminal organization focused largely on marijuana cultivation in the mountainous Durango region known as the Golden Triangle, and with time, the Cabrera Sarabia brothers became a key piece of the Sinaloa Cartel's structure.
Reports also say Los Cabrera played a crucial role in helping some of the cartel's most wanted traffickers remain free. According to Mexico's Defense Ministry, the group even provided security for El Chapo Guzmán in the Durango highlands.
The Cabrera Sarabia clan was caught in the crossfire when Los Chapitos and La Mayiza declared war last September. Since then, they have been fighting over territory in Chihuahua, Sinaloa and Durango against Los Chapitos and cells of the New Juárez Cartel to control trafficking routes and synthetic drug production.
