MIAMI _ Noah Syndergaard held on through six innings Monday and coming off a dramatic sweep of their division rival, the Mets held on to beat a team they need to beat up on this season. The Mets topped rebuilding Marlins 4-2 in a rare game at Marlins Park with the roof open.
The Mets (8-1) have won six straight and they become just the third team in franchise history to start the season 8-1. The Marlins, who won 12 games against the Mets last season, dropped to 3-7 on the young season.
Syndergaard (2-0) allowed two runs, one earned on five hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out five. Despite putting runners on second and third, Jeurys Familia wiggled out of the ninth, striking out three, for his fifth save.
A night after powering the Mets to a sweep of the Nationals, Adrian Gonzalez got the Mets going against the lowly fish with an RBI-single in the second. Kevin Plawecki's ground out that inning gave them another run. Amed Rosario doubled to lead off the third and scored the third Mets run on Jay Bruce's single. Rosario, whose error in the fifth led to the Marlins first run, singled in an insurance run in the seventh.
Syndergaard, who needed 47 pitches to cruise through the first four innings, struggled to get out of trouble in the fifth. Brian Anderson reach on Amed Rosario's fielding error. The shortstop didn't get his glove down on a ground ball that ended up in center field and Anderson ended up on second. Syndergaard seemed to shake that off with two quick outs, but he walked Bryan Holaday and pinch hitter Tomas Telis. Derek Dietrich lined a single into left field to give the Marlins a run. Syndergaard needed 26 pitches to get out of the inning on Miguel Rojas's ground ball force out at second.
In the sixth, Starlin Castro lined a single into left field and stole second. He scored on Anderson's double. Syndergaard got two straight ground outs to short to get out of the inning.
