Mets' Matt Harvey 'embarrassed' by his weekend actions

NEW YORK _ With this three-day suspension completed, Mets starter Matt Harvey admitted Tuesday to having been out on Friday night and golfing on Saturday morning, saying he was embarrassed by his actions.

"As I just did with my teammates and all of the coaches, I apologized for my actions and I do apologize for my actions," Harvey said at a news conference at Citi Field.

"Obviously I'm extremely embarrassed by my actions. I apologize to my teammates, to the Mets organization, to the Wilpons, all the way down, to the Mets fans for doing what I did."

Harvey was originally scheduled to start Sunday, but general manager Sandy Alderson announced prior to the game that the pitcher had been suspended for three days without pay for a violation of team rules.

Alderson did not give details as to the reason for suspension, however several reports later revealed that Harvey did not show up to the ballpark on Saturday because of a migraine after playing golf earlier that morning.

The New York Post reported earlier Tuesday that Harvey was at a Manhattan club until early Saturday morning, which Harvey acknowledged Tuesday.

"I'm doing everything in my power so that never happens again," Harvey said. "Like I've said, I'm extremely embarrassed for my actions. I'm looking forward to getting things back on track and doing everything I can to help this team win and help this organization moving forward. They all have my word on that one."
