Mets manager Collins won't elaborate on deGrom's status

Terry Collins didn't necessarily supply bad news about Jacob deGrom's health before Friday night's game against the Nationals, but it certainly didn't sound all that good.

DeGrom, who was seen motioning to trainer Ray Ramirez after leaving the game Thursday, said he was physically fine after the game, but Collins' non-answers on Friday certainly made it seem like something wasn't quite right with the struggling right-hander.

"I learned a lot about it," Collins said when asked about deGrom's health. "We have no news for you at this moment."

DeGrom, who allowed three earned runs Thursday on seven days' rest, said he's been struggling with his mechanics and could not locate his fastball in the way he's accustomed. Thursday, he said he was simply out of sync, and Collins also noticed that he's lost some of the late movement on his pitches. All this has led to two very bad starts _ he gave up 12 hits to the Cardinals and 13 to the Giants _ in addition to Thursday's middling effort.

On Friday, Collins was pressed a number of times about deGrom, but preferred to stay mum.

"We know a lot about it, but we don't have anything for you at this moment," he said the second time he was asked.

"I really can't discuss that just yet," he said when asked again.

And finally: "I'll say it again: I have nothing to say at this time about Jake."
