CHICAGO _ Pitching coach Dave Eiland and bullpen coach Chuck Hernandez were fired by the Mets on Thursday afternoon, a source confirmed to the Daily News.
Eiland was hired as the pitching coach after the Mets named Mickey Callaway the manager following the 2017 season. He was dismissed after leading Mets starters to a 4.27 ERA this season, ranked 13th in the major leagues, in his second year with the team.
The Mets pitching staff as a whole holds a 4.67 ERA, ranked 20th in the big leagues and 13th in the National League.
Hernandez's tenure with the Mets was short lived. He was hired as the bullpen coach on Dec. 9, 2018. The Mets bullpen is ranked 28th in the majors with a 5.38 ERA.
The dismissal of Eiland and Hernandez is the extent of the Mets coaching shakeup, a source confirmed. Callaway's job as Mets manager is safe.
Phil Regan reportedly will replace Eiland on Callaway's staff.
General manager Brodie Van Wagenen will hold a press conference alongside Callaway at 5 p.m. ET prior to the start of the Mets four-game series against the Cubs on Thursday night.
