MILWAUKEE _ Jose Reyes playing an outfield position is once again a possibility.
In an attempt to find a way additional avenues for playing time for the veteran, Mets manager Terry Collins talked to Reyes on Friday about possibly playing the outfield.
Reyes has not started the last two games with T.J. Rivera instead manning third base.
"That's certainly on the table," Collins said. "The rough start he's had and with T.J. getting in there and swinging the bat the way he has, we got to revisit it."
The team considered using Reyes in the outfield during spring training, but David Wright's shoulder injury opened an everyday need at third base. Reyes took some reps during camp but did not get any work in during an actual game.
Reyes has never played in the outfield during a game, and said he last shagged some balls in the outfield a few weeks ago at Citi Field.
"We've been talking about the outfield position since the offseason but it's not happened even one time," Reyes said. "If you want to put me there I am ready."
Collins added that the team would be more inclined to use others in the outfield if Curtis Granderson (.143 average entering Saturday) continues to struggle. The team has not had yet had active conversations about benching the veteran, though.
Rivera has started at third base over Reyes since he's swinging a hot bat.
"I want to be in the lineup, want to contribute to my ball club," Reyes said. "I don't make those decisions. Only thing I can control is just be ready when they ask me to. The other stuff I can't control it. I am going to continue to work and stay ready if they need me."
