MIAMI _ Throughout this Mets nosedive, Jacob deGrom has been a pillar of calmness. Even as the losses have piled up and the team has wasted his brilliance, the Mets ace has remained steady while noting that it's not fun to go through these streaks.
Saturday, after the Mets lost another one of his starts to fall to the bottom of the National League, the righty admitted that his team's play is getting to him.
"I'm definitely frustrated, frustrated with how the night went. I'm tired of losing to be honest. Everybody else in here I'm sure is," deGrom said after the 5-2 loss to the Marlins on Saturday night. "That's not what we want to do. We came here to win baseball games and we're not doing that. We have to find a way to do that."
As the Mets could not hold a two-run lead in the sixth inning Saturday with deGrom on the hill, they now own the worst winning percentage in the National League, and are tied with the Marlins for the worst record in the National League. The loss closed out the worst June in franchise history with the Mets (32-48) going 5-21.
A swinging bunt that the Mets did not handle properly led to the winning run.
"It's not fun. That was not the goal when we came in," deGrom said of the Mets having the worst winning percentage in the NL. "The goal was to have the best winning percentage. This is the complete opposite. Nobody is happy with that."
