Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has ordered Metropolitan Melbourne back into lockdown, after a surge in coronavirus cases across the city's suburbs.
Unlike the statewide lockdown earlier in the year, this one does not include most of regional and rural Victoria.
But it does include the "interface" areas where Melbourne meets the country.
So, where is Metropolitan Melbourne?
Also known as Greater Melbourne, Metropolitan Melbourne takes in about 5 million people across almost 10,000 square kilometres.
Its northern reaches include areas such as Sunbury, Kalkallo, Mernda, Whittlesea and Strathewen.
Further east, it includes rural parts of the Yarra Ranges, including much of the now abandoned town of Cambarville and the Yarra Ranges National Park, and the growing suburbs of Officer and Pakenham.
Its westernmost areas include Melton West, Werribee and Wyndham Vale, and rural parts of the Melton and Wyndham municipalities.
Metropolitan Melbourne also extends down the Mornington Peninsula — but, on the other side of the bay, does not reach as far as Geelong.
Altogether, it encompasses 31 local government areas.
