Metrolink staff are threatening to walk out over a pay dispute with bosses

Metrolink staff are threatening to walk out over a pay dispute with bosses.

Unite the Union has confirmed that the latest round of talks with Keolis Amey Metrolink Ltd, the company that runs tram services across Greater Manchester, have ended in disappointment.

A Unite spokesman confirmed they were preparing the ground for strike action, which could 'impact the service'.

Unite regional officer Dave Roberts added: "Workers were due to receive a pay rise in January and it is nearly August.

"The company has made a frankly pitiful offer which members have rejected by over 90 per cent in a consultative ballot.

"Unite is now actively preparing for a full industrial action, if members vote yes then strikes could occur later this year."

The last time Metrolink staff threatened strike action was in June 2019, when a walk-out was planned for the weekend of Parklife Festival and Noel Gallagher's homecoming gig.

However, it was called after a weekend of talks with employer Keolis Amey Metrolink Ltd.

The Manchester Evening News contacted Transport for Greater Manchester for comment and were referred to Keolis Amey.

Keolis Amey has been contacted for comment.
