Metrolink services disrupted on Manchester Airport line after road sweeper and tram collide

Metrolink services to Manchester Airport have been disrupted this morning following a tram crash.

Services between Wythenshawe and the city centre were also suspended following the smash involving a road sweeper.

Photos from the scene show the side of the tram was badly damaged following the collision at Wythenshawe Park.

Passenger Darren Lowe tweeted a photo from inside the tram at 7.30am, showing the side of the sweeper poking through the smashed door.

He wrote: "Tram has hit a truck parked next to the line between Moor Road and Wythenshawe Park."

Passengers can use their tram tickets on the bus, TfGM said.

"Customers can also use their Metrolink ticket on bus services 19 and 41. We also have ticket acceptance on Northern Rail services between Manchester Airport and the City Centre."

Twitter user Hannah replied: "That's not really helpful to those of us on the tram that was (sic) in the collision."

Metrolink replied that they were 'truly sorry'.

A spokesman for Metrolink said: "Earlier this morning at just before 7.30am there was a collision between a road sweeper and a tram near Wythenshawe Park.

"All customers on the tram were detrained. There are no reports of any injuries."
