Metrolink line suspended after car and tram smash outside pub

A car and a tram crashed in Tameside earlier this afternoon (Tuesday).

The smash happened on Manchester Road in Audenshaw , outside The Snipe pub this afternoon (Tuesday).

A spokesman for TfGM said there were 'no reported injuries'.

All services were suspended between Droylsden and Asthon-Under-Lyne following the incident.

The line resumed service at around 5.40pm.

Austin Hendry walked past the scene just after 4pm.

He said: "I walked past it after it happened. All I saw was a tram stuck behind. I wondered what had happened."

Shortly after he saw a grey car had collided with the tram.

At 4.30pm, a spokesman for TfGM said: "It happened just outside The Snipe pub in Audenshaw.

"It was a collision between a car and a tram. There were no reported injuries."

Metrolink then tweeted at 5.40pm, saying: "Update: We are operating a full service on the Ashton line.

"Minor delays are to be expected. Thank you for your patience."
