Metroid Dread receives boss rush mode in a free update

Last year, Metroid Dead took everyone by surprise with its exciting white-knuckle boss fights, and now you can revisit them at any time.

On Thursday, Nintendo released the Boss Rush mode for Metroid Dread. Aspiring space bounty hunters can now take on the universe’s most challenging beasties in a tense gauntlet of one-after-the-other fights. While missile supplies restock between battles, Samus will carry any damage taken into the subsequent brawl. So don’t take any hits!

Much like previous updates for Metroid Dread, the Boss Rush mode comes in a free patch. Nintendo is gracious enough to let us get blitzed at no additional charge, apparently.

Another mode, called Survival Rush, has also been added. You’ll take out as many enemies as possible within specific time limits in this one. Resources only replenish once you’ve defeated a boss, which sounds particularly difficult.

There’s no doubt that Metroid Dread is one of the best Nintendo Switch of 2021. Hopefully, all that hype motivates Retro Studios with Metroid Prime 4’s development, which we’ve still not seen outside a small teaser here or there.

Not that there’s any rush, since it’d be better if Metroid Prime 4 ends up as a hugely delayed game that turned out great rather than something half-baked or underwhelming.
