Metrocentre reveals shoe brand Moda In Pella is set to open new store within weeks

Popular footwear firm Moda in Pelle is set to become the latest retailer to open up in the Metrocentre.

The shoe company, which has been trading for more than 40 years, is set to be based in the current Paperchase unit in the Upper Platinum Mall, alongside neighbours Hobbs, Kuoni and Phase Eight, selling shoes, boots, bags and accessories. The announcement marks the return of a standalone store for the brand in the North East, a number of years after it closed in Newcastle.

The company used to trade from a store in Newcastle’s Central Arcade building, near to the Monument, but after closing down the shop it has traded from a franchise in Rutherford department store in Morpeth, Northumberland. Jacob Snell, head of retail at Moda In Pelle, said the business - which means ‘fashion in leather’ in Italian - creates footwear which is wearable, fashionable, but also affordable.

With over 40 retail stores and concessions across the UK and a strong online presence, he said the opening of the Metrocentre store highlights continued growth for both brands.

Mr Snell said: “We’re really excited to be opening our new concept store at the Metrocentre. We believe it’ll be a very special place to shop for our customers. Our shoes are designed with passion and crafted without compromise. It’s these fundamental principles that make us stand out on the high street.”

Ben Cox of Sovereign Centros, added: “We are pleased to welcome another established quality brand, which will strengthen the footwear offering available to our customers. With its unique and sophisticated product range we anticipate a successful launch for the brand.

“The opening of Moda in Pelle adds to Metrocentre’s expanding offer of aspirational brands which includes recent arrivals Hobbs, Jo Malone and Harrods Beauty.”

Metrocentre is now home to around 270 brands, including international names such as Zara, Primark, Marks & Spencer and H beauty by Harrods, as well as over 60 leisure attractions such as Odeon IMAX, Namco Funscape, and Angry Birds Adventure Golf.
