Metrobus damaged after being shot at in south Bristol - forcing passengers to get off

Passengers were forced to leave a bus in south Bristol after someone fired pellet shots at the vehicle smashing one of the windows.

A window on the top deck of an m1 metrobus was damaged while waiting at the bus stop in Novers Lane near Filwood Park on Sunday evening (May 5).

A pellet went straight through the upstairs window and into the bus - thankfully missing any passengers.

One witness, Nikolay Neykov, who said he was the only passenger sat on the top deck said he was “very lucky” to be sat on a different seat.

Speaking to Bristol Live Mr Neykov said he was really shaken by the incident and was thankful that no one was sitting in the seat close to the broken window.

“I just all of a sudden heard a bang and at first thought the window had broken itself, but when I took a closer look I saw the pellet hole,” he added.

“It’s just really stupid. Someone could have been badly injured.”

Following the incident around 5pm, passengers were told to leave the bus as it was no longer operational.

Jimmy Sommerville, general manager for the South West at Bristol Community Transport, said: "The incident took place near Inns Court, where the bus was shot at, we believe by a pellet gun, resulting in damage to one of the upper deck windows.

“We can confirm that no one was injured in this incident and all passengers were transferred safely to the next available service.

“Following the incident, the bus was moved back to the depot.

“The safety and well-being of our passengers and drivers are our number one priority and we are currently investigating the incident.”
