Metro worker killed in crash after driver flees Hollywood traffic stop

Dec. 28--Two men were killed in a fiery crash early Monday after a driver fled from a police traffic stop in Hollywood and crashed into a Metro van, authorities said.

The crash at Hollywood Boulevard and Gower Street occurred just before 2 a.m., police said.

A patrol unit had pulled over a silver Chevrolet Camaro around 1:30 a.m., and an officer was questioning a passenger outside the car when the driver took off, according to Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Tony Im.

Police told KTLA-TV Channel 5 that the Camaro had been pulled over near the area of Sunset Boulevard and Argyle Avenue.

The crash occurred roughly half a mile from where the Camaro driver sped off, and caused the van to burst into flames. The Metro employee, identified as a man in his 50s, died at the scene.
