Metro to be suspended between Airport and South Gosforth for repair works this morning

A large stretch of the Metro line will be suspended this morning for repair works.

Trains will not run between Airport and South Gosforth from 11.30am as work is scheduled to take place on the overhead lines in the Fawdon area.

A spokesperson from Nexus said the lines have not come down but "a small piece of loose catenary wire" needs to be fixed.

This requires services to be stopped for the power to be turned off, so that work can be carried out safely on the site.

Passengers will be able to use mini bus taxis which are running while the service suspension is in place.

The stations affected are: Airport, Callerton Parkway, Bank Foot, Fawdon, Wansbeck Road, Regent Centre and South Gosforth.

It is not currently known when the line will be able to reopen.

The spokesperson added: "We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.

"Please keep an eye on our website, www.nexus.org.uk and our Twitter page, @My_Metro for updates."
