Metro services suspended due to 'police incident'

Services were suspended on the Tyne and Wear Metro in the early hours of this morning due to what was being described as 'a police incident'.

The stoppage affected services between Tynemouth and Longbenton.

At 12.25am Tyne and Wear Metro tweeted: "Due to a police incident at North Shields we are unable to operate any further trains between Tynemouth - St James and Tynemouth - Longbenton."

Traffic and travel monitoring service Inrix said the service was suspended "due to emergency services dealing with an incident".

No further details or information about the nature of the incident are currently available.
