Sept. 08--A Monday afternoon shooting aboard a Metro bus in South Los Angeles left one man injured, authorities said.
Gunfire erupted on the Metro 207 bus, which connects Hawthorne to Los Feliz, as it was passing near 60th Street and Western Avenue shortly after 12 p.m., said Ramon Montenegro, a spokesman for the L.A. County Sheriff's Department's Transit Services Bureau.
A man was struck in the back by a gunshot and taken to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Montenegro said.
It's unclear what led to the mid-day shooting. LAPD Officer Mike Lopez told City News Service that the man was caught in the crossfire of a dispute between rival gangs.
According to Montenegro, the exact cause of the shooting is under investigation. Deputies are reviewing surveillance footage to determine what transpired, and investigators are trying to identify the suspected gunman and his accomplice.

Although the shooting occurred in the city of Los Angeles, the Sheriff's Department has jurisdiction over Metro trains and buses.
