Metra Electric service resumes after train hits person near Riverdale

Metra Electric service was delayed early Monday after someone was hit by a train in south suburban Riverdale.

Inbound and outbound train movement was halted shortly after 1:30 a.m. near the Ivanhoe station after a pedestrian was struck by train 839, which was scheduled to arrive in University Park at 1:45 a.m., according to service alerts from Metra.

Riverdale police did not immediately provide details about the incident.

Train 839 was moving again with “extensive delays” by 3:30 a.m., Metra said. Inbound and outbound train traffic has since been restored.
