Metra BNSF trains delayed after ‘mechanical failure’

Mechanical problems are causing delays of more than half an hour during Friday’s morning commute on Metra’s BNSF Railway line in the west suburbs.

Inbound Train 1210, which was scheduled to depart Aurora at 5:30 a.m. and arrive at Union Station at 6:45 a.m., is running 28 to 33 minutes behind scheduled because of a “mechanical failure,” according to service alerts from Metra. It will run express from Hinsdale to Chicago, while another train will accommodate passengers at the intermediate stops.

Train 1212, scheduled to depart Aurora at 5:57 a.m. and arrive in Chicago at 6:51 a.m., is running about 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule, according to Metra.

Riders are advised to listen to station platform announcements for the latest service information.
