Metallica's incredible donation to Mancunian homeless charity will keep it going for the next year

Metallica made a huge donation to a Manchester-based homeless charity before their sold-out gig at the Etihad Stadium.

The heavy metal legends handed over an astonishing £40,000 to Northern Quarter-based Coffee4Craig.

Charity boss Hendrix Lancaster said the cash is enough to fund their work for the next 12 months.

Metallica's charity foundation 'All Within My Hands' shared a picture of the band handing over the cheque to Coffee4Craig with the message: "Thank you to all the fans attending #MetInManchester tonight for joining @metallica in supporting @coffee4craig, as they support vulnerable people in their community."

Hendrix, who set up the charity with his wife Risha in 2013 following the death of Risha’s brother Craig, attended last night's concert with charity volunteers - and Metallica superfans - Mandi Quigley and Connor Sherry.

He said: "It is absolutely incredible.

"We got an email from Metallica about six weeks ago inviting us to the gig and saying they would like to make a donation.

"We were treated like absolute VIPs all day.

"We spent loads of time chatting to the crew and then we had about 10 minutes with the band themselves in a little backroom in the bowels of the City stadium.

"They'd obviously done a bit of research into what the charity does and were really interested in our work.

"When they handed over the cheque I think they were almost as excited as we were.

"It's an incredible donation and it basically means we can continue operating the service for the next year.

"It just goes to show what amazing people Metalllica are.

"We were just blown away by it. I don't think we've come down from it yet."
