Metallica pay touching tribute to tragic Irish fan Christopher Bell at Slane Castle concert

Rockers Metallica paid a poignant tribute to a tragic Irish fan who passed away before their Slane Concert gig.

Meath native Christopher Bell, who was a Corporal in the Army Reserve Defence Forces, had secured tickets to Slane and was looking forward to the gig prior to his tragic death on May 25.

Mr Bell, 26, from Duleek, died after his motorbike was involved in a crash with a tractor while on his way to a holiday home in Co Westmeath.

In a touching gesture, Metallica's lead singer James Hetfield dedicated a song to Christopher, saying: "This is for a friend we never met, Christopher Bell."

The band then launched into their famous tune Nothing Else Matters in memory of the young man, the Irish Sun reports.

Christopher's uncle Adrian Murray expressed his gratitude for the gesture, saying: "When we heard James Hetfield say those words... it was a little light in the darkness.

"Metallica, for a brief while, let us smile again."
