Metallica fans going to Slane Castle have lucky escape as Storm Miguel misses Ireland

Metallica fans will have a lucky escape from Storm Miguel which rocked the UK yesterday.

With a crowd of more than 75,000 expected at the band’s gig at Slane Castle today, Met Eireann confirmed the strong winds have completely missed Ireland.

Miguel brought severe flooding to parts of the UK and would have proved disastrous for concertgoers had it hit here.

But it’s not all good news as there will be a mixture of sun and rain at the Co Meath venue this evening.

Met Eireann forecaster Harm Luijkx told the Irish Mirror: “Ireland thankfully completely missed Storm Miguel... but there’s a chance of a few showers on Saturday evening for those concertgoers.

“The day will be mostly dry but a few will hit the concert areas. It’s not super summer weather or T-shirt weather.”

It will also be a mixed bag for those heading today to see The Cure at Malahide Castle in North Co Dublin.

On today’s forecast nationwide, Mr Luijkx said: “There will be scattered showers in West Munster and West Connacht which will become more widespread in the afternoon with some heavy downpours.

“Temperatures will range between 13C to 16C.”

Tonight is set to be dry with good clear spells, while tomorrow will be another cool day with a mix of sun and occasional showers.
