Metallica have said they are "devastated" to be cancelling all of their upcoming tour dates as vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield checks into rehab.
The US heavy metal band posted a series of heartfelt tweets explaining that they would be rescheduling the tour dates in Australia and New Zealand once James is healthy again.
James, 56, has struggled with addiction for a long time and first entered rehab in 2002, leading to him becoming teetotal.
The emotional messages from the band apologised to fans for letting them down, and thanked them for their support.

The tweets from the remaining members drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Rob Trujillo, said: "We are truly sorry to inform our fans and friends that we must postpone our upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand.
"As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years.

"He has now, unfortunately had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again."
They continued: "We are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who travel great distances to experience our shows.
"We appreciate your understanding and support for James & thank you for being a part of our Metallica family."
The statement goes on to say that fans who bought tickets to the nine remaining gigs in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland will be refunded.

The band have won eight Grammys and sold more than 125 million albums worldwide.
They have also reportedly sold $1 billion in ticket sales since they formed, making them the biggest selling metal band in the world.
Fans sent messages of support to James wishing him a speedy recovery.
"What the f***....my heart just broke... Best wishes and all my love to the boys, James and his family" said one.

"Hope he gets the help he needs and gets better soon. Papa Het does so much for us, he can take all the time he needs" replied another.
"Love you guys and love James so much. I'll be cheering him on every day. Hope he's alright and getting the help he needs" said a third.
A fourth added: "Bounce back strong, healthy, and mindful James. Your band and fans are behind you... Love and rock n roll man!"
