Metal Build Infinity Shows Off The Past, Present And Future Of High-End Mecha Toys

The Metal Build Event happens over this weekend in Akihabara, Tokyo.

One of the latest and biggest toy events in Tokyo right now is that of Metal Build Infinity being hosted in Akihabara over this weekend. I managed to have a look around the day before it opened and there was quite a lot on show.

Normally, Bandai Spirits host its Tamashii Nation events a few times a year. However, one of its main toylines has built a considerable amount of momentum recently and it seems that this is now worth commemorating.

For those not up to speed on what Metal Build toys are, these tend to be diecast mecha figures with a highly athleticized style.

While the bulk of the toyline has catered more to the extensive Gundam saga, it has also branched out into series such as Full Metal Panic!, Mazinger Z and now Evangelion.

The event itself was mostly a celebration of the whole toyline, from showing pretty much every Metal Build toy ever made to how complex the manufacturing process for these toys can be.

However, there were some new figures on show, such as the upcoming Gundam Crossbone X-2 and Eva-02 but also an insanely massive prototype for the GN Arms platform from Gundam 00.

There were also a lot of new Gundam Seed related entries as well, with the custom Caletvwlch weapon being a new webshop exclusive release and shown off rather nicely to boot.

Overall, it was an interesting event and one I think that will be very popular, as the Metal Build toyline has a serious following both in Japan but especially in China. Thankfully, entry is free and it’s being hosted at the Belle Salle in Akihabara in case you fancy dropping by.
