A Metropolitan Police officer who viewed a road smash report relating to a friend would have been sacked had he not quit.
PC Mokbul Hussain then texted them to say he had seen the database log before advising them on a course of action regarding the traffic collision.
On Tuesday an accelerated misconduct hearing found Hussain breached the standards of professional behaviour in relation to discreditable conduct and honesty.
Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist said his behaviour had reached a gross misconduct level.
But the constable resigned from the force on December 20, 2023.
Hussain, previously attached to the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, did not attended the hearing.
Detective Superintendent Christina Jessah, who leads the unit, said: “We expect a high level of integrity from our officers and former PC Hussain fell short of that standard.”
The disgraced officer will now be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing.
Those appearing on it cannot be employed by police, local bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct or His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.
A police spokesman said: “This follows former PC Hussain having sent text messages to someone known to him confirming that he had viewed road traffic collision reports involving that person and advising them on a course of action.
“Had he still been serving former PC Hussain would have been dismissed without notice.”
