The Metropolitan police is taking its former chief superintendent Parm Sandhu to court - claiming her allegations of racism and sexism broke a confidentiality agreement.

The force claims she must pay £60,000 after breaking a non-disclosure agreement, The Guardian reports.

Ms Sandhu, who is of Asian background, won £120,000 in an employment tribunal after leaving the Met after 30 years, alleging discrimination.

She subsequently wrote a tell-all book about her experiences and gave interviews in the wake of Sarah Everard’s murder in March 2021. Due to this, the Met alleges she violated the terms of the non-disclosure agreement.

The Met is taking action as they feel Ms Sandhu breached an order preventing her from making “disparaging” or “derogatory” comments about the Met or opening up about her own victimhood.

Ms Sandhu became the first non-white woman to be promoted to chief superintendent in the Met.

Her memoir Black and Blue: One Woman’s Story of Policing and Prejudice was published in June 2021 and in publicising it, she called the Met “institutionally racist”.

A statement from the force’s lawyers said: “Publication of such material would have amounted to a breach of the confidentiality agreement owed by the defendant under the settlement agreement.”

The Met has said it would be inappropriate to comment on the current situation.

A court date has not been publicised.
