Met Police officers charged with assaulting two men to face trial

Two serving Metropolitan Police officers accused of assaulting two men will face trial next year.

Pc Jack Wood and Pc Archie Payne have been charged in connection with an incident in Romford on January 5.

The men are set to appear at Hendon Magistrates’ Court on February 4 2021.

Wood, 26, faces one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one of common assault.

His colleague Payne, 26, is charged with one count of common assault against a different alleged victim.

The officers were charged on July 3 after a complaint by a member of the public led to an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct, the Met said.

The pair first appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday and have been released on conditional bail until their trial next year.

Both police officers are based at the force’s East Area Command Unit and are currently on restricted duties.
