Met Police officer who ‘took selfies at scene of sex attack’ faces sack

A Metropolitan Police officer allegedly took selfies on his mobile at the scene of a serious sex attack in central London.

PC Max Haywood is also accused of sharing the images and videos taken on his device with other people, a gross misconduct panel will be told next week.

Haywood was based in the Central West Command Unit covering Westminster, Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea.

If proven, his behaviour on June 13 last year is alleged to reached a level of discreditable conduct “so serious as to justify dismissal”, the force said.

In 2021, Met constables Deniz Jaffer and Jamie Lewis were jailed for two years and nine months for taking selfies of murdered sisters Bibaa Henry, 46, and Nicole Smallman, 27, before sharing the images with colleagues and friends on WhatsApp.

The constables had been assigned to guard the scene after Ms Henry and Ms Smallman were killed in Fryent Country Park, Wembley in June 2020.

A notice for Haywood’s hearing on August 22 reads: “It is alleged that on June 13 2024, whilst on a crime scene for a serious sexual offence, PC Haywood took selfies and videos of the crime scene on his mobile device and distributed them.”
