A police officer who sent a homophobic email to 55 colleagues has kept his job.
PC David Bewick, who works for the Met’s Central South Command Unit, was given a final written warning following a misconduct hearing Thursday.
He was found to have breached standards of professional behaviour in respect of Authority, Respect & Courtesy, Discreditable Conduct, Duties & Responsibilities, and Equality and Diversity.
The hearing heard how PC Bewick sent an email and an attachment containing homophobic content from his work account on October 13, 2019.
The matter was reported to the Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) on October 30, 2019.
PC was placed on restricted duties while an investigation was carried out.
Chief Inspector Matt Cox, DPS, said: “The Met will not tolerate the sharing of any material that could be deemed as discriminatory and it is especially shocking when Met systems are used for this purpose.
“We expect all of our officers to uphold our high standards of behaviour and will take action when those standards are not met.”
