Met Police officer pleads guilty to possessing 1,700 indecent images of children

A Metropolitan Police officer who served in a unit protecting MPs has admitted possessing almost 1,700 indecent images of children.

PC Adam Cox, 37, was suspended from duty in August last year, after being arrested by Hertfordshire Police.

Appearing at Norwich Crown Court on Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to four counts of possession of indecent images of children, including 645 category A images, 201 category B images, 449 category C images and 396 extreme pornographic images.

The categories describe the severity of photos and videos, with A being the most extreme and including those showing penetration, sexual activity with animals or sadism.

Cox, of Dedworth Road in Windsor, has been bailed to appear at for sentencing on 15 December at the Old Bailey, where he faces a lengthy prison sentence.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said he was based in the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection unit, adding: “The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) will conduct a misconduct review once criminal proceedings are complete.”
