A senior police officer fighting breast cancer has joined forces with TV’s Lorraine Kelly to encourage every woman in the Met to check themselves.

Detective Superintendent Tara McGovern, 46, who runs the Yard unit tackling county lines drug gangs, was at home in Windsor recovering from chemotherapy when she saw an item on Kelly’s show about the Change And Check sticker campaign.

She took the idea to her bosses and 10,000 stickers are now appearing in changing rooms, gyms and lavatories in all Met buildings urging the force’s 14,000 women to examine their breasts for lumps.

The stickers are also in hundreds of other changing rooms including at John Lewis and Monsoon.
