Met Police officer 'harassed' female colleague leaving her feeling 'unsafe in own area'

A serving Metropolitan Police officer that was found guilty of harassing a female colleague when he made her feel 'unsafe and anxious' has been handed a community order.

PC Harvinder Dulay, 31, had been on duty when called the victim, as well as sending her text messages and emails in February 2022.

Westminster Magistrates' Court heard they had been friends, but she had told him she did not want to see him any more in October 2021.

In a victim impact statement, she told how she was left feeling "unsafe in my own area", "anxious" and "looking over my shoulder" by his behaviour.

District Judge Annabel Pilling found him guilty of harassment following a trial last month and he has now been handed a 12-month community order.

He also received a restraining order banning him from the victim's street and must pay a total of £875 in costs and other charges.

The judge said: “It is clear from what I have read in the pre-sentence report that you still do not accept that there was anything wrong or inappropriate about your conduct towards your female colleague.

"I have no doubt at all that in February 2022 you should have been well aware that, firstly, she did not want any outside work contact with you and, secondly, you had already been spoken to at work about this and knew how serious this was."

After his conviction, the Met said Dulay, who is attached to Central West Command Unit, was on restricted duties while awaiting misconduct proceedings.

Chief Superintendent Owain Richards, local policing commander for central London, said at the time: "Pc Dulay's behaviour was completely unacceptable and it is right that he will now face the consequences of his actions.

"No woman who works for the Met should have to deal with repeated, unwanted messages, especially from a work colleague.

"I am glad the victim was able to bring this to our attention.

"Now that criminal proceedings have concluded, a misconduct hearing will be scheduled as quickly as possible."
