A serving probationary Metropolitan Police officer, 21, has been charged with being a member of far-right terrorist group National Action, the force said.
The Metropolitan Police said Benjamin Hannam, 21, of north London, had been charged with five offences including belonging to a proscribed organisation, namely National Action, between December 17, 2016 and January 1, 2018.
He has also been charged with two counts of false representation by stating he had not been a member of “an organisation similar to the BNP” on both his application to the police and a subsequent police vetting form “intending to make gain for himself”, the force said.
Hannam was also charged with possession of an indecent photograph of a child and possession of a prohibited photograph of a child.
He was arrested following an investigation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command and has been suspended from duty.
Hannam has been released on bail to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 6.
