Met Police arrests 100 people in huge operation ahead of Notting Hill Carnival

  • Metropolitan Police have arrested 100 people and conducted intelligence-led interventions to enhance safety at Notting Hill Carnival.
  • These operations resulted in 21 individuals being recalled to prison, the seizure of 11 firearms and over 40 knives, and 266 people being barred from attending.
  • Commander Charmain Brenyah stated the policing plan prioritises tackling serious violence, aiming to deter criminality among the expected one million attendees.
  • Live Facial Recognition technology will be deployed, despite concerns from the Equality and Human Rights Commission regarding its potential impact on individuals' rights.
  • Additional security measures include screening arches and stop-and-search powers at entry points, with intelligence shared nationally to identify and ban violent gangs, following two murders at last year's event.
