Met Offices issues weather warning for South West as storm due to hit

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind covering much of the South West - although Bristol should avoid the worst of the bad weather.

Forecasters are warning of delays on the roads, rail and the possibility of air and ferry travel being affected by high winds.

The weather warning will be in place from 4am until 4pm on Friday, October 4.

The Met Office says: "It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities are affected by spray and/or large waves."

It also warns of delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges and possible loss of power.

The warning covers the whole of Devon and Cornwall and southern Somerset, with parts of south Wales also included.

While Bristol is not included in the warning, winds of up to 20mph and rain is forecast for Friday in the city.
