Met Office weather warning: Yellow alert issued for thunder and lightning

A yellow weather warning has been issued as the Strathclyde region faces thunderstorms and heavy rain.

The city has been basking in a mini heatwave over the last couple of days – but unfortunately, that's not to last.

The Met Office have put a yellow warning in place across the west coast of Scotland until 1pm this afternoon. They add that "although heavy rain is possible, lightning strikes seem the more likely hazard."

They warn that lightning impacts are possible – with potential short term loss of power and possible damage to buildings.

Temperatures are set to reach around 21C today but we can expect a mixture of sunny spells and heavy rain.

The forecast reads: “Many places will have a dry day with some hazy sunshine. However isolated thundery showers may spread northeast in the afternoon. "

And it's set to get even worse tomorrow.

"A mostly cloudy day with showers, these turning heavier for a time in the afternoon. Turning drier and somewhat brighter by early evening. Becoming cooler. Maximum temperature 18 °C."

Well, it was nice while it lasted...
