Met officer sacked for punching woman while on duty

A Met police officer has been dismissed for punching a woman while on duty.

The incident unfolded as PC Shanoor Ali attended an address in Tooting alongside uniformed officers on June 27, 2021.

PC Ali is alleged to have assaulted a woman inside the property before she was arrested. The case against her was later discontinued.

A panel ruled that PC Ali’s actions amounted to gross misconduct following a hearing from February 22 to 24.

PC Ali will now be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing. Those appearing on the list cannot be employed by police, local policing bodies (PCCs), the Independent Office for Police Conduct or His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services.

Detective Clair Kelland, South West BCU commander, said:"This matter will clearly be of great concern to our community, and rightly so. I can only imagine the trauma, and physical impact on the woman concerned, at the hands of a police officer. I am shocked by what happened.

“Police officers do need to use force in some instances, but it is clear that PC Ali went way beyond what was proportionate in this incident.

"It is right that he has been held to account for his actions and will now no longer be a police officer."
